Hello Class,
Each week I will post a quick note in my blog to you. This is my informal method to communicate important information, recap the previous week's graded assignments (discussions or journals) and prepare you for the week ahead. I am happy to see many of you activity in the online course. Your posts in the introduction will help to build a feeling of community and if you have not already done so, please remember to post a picture of yourself as soon as possible. The deadline to complete the graded journal activity for week one will end tomorrow night (1/16/12) at midnight.
Our first required campus meeting will take place on Monday, January 23 from 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. We will meet in the Communications Bldg. in room 206. You will be expected to attend class for the entire time period. There will be rich discussion, activities, and many creative introduction speeches to be enjoyed! If are you planning to use props or visual aids in your presentation, don't forget to bring them to class.
The online Fundamentals of Speech class moves at the same pace as the traditional face-to-face classes but it will often seem to fly by. The biggest challenge you will face is keeping up. Beginning with week two, you should have spent a minimum of 4-5 hours reading, participating, and preparing for the first presentation. A few of you have done so and you are ready for week two and the new material. However, the majority have spent only a few minutes in the online classroom. You can do this! Set aside time and catch up.
Coming up: Week Two will include Chapter 2 and Chapter 12 with one graded assignment and two practice quizzes. By the way, the practice quizzes will help you prepare for the graded exams.
